Create any document into a PDF. Useful tool if you were sent a file that you cannot open. When you sign up you get the first 5 conversions for free, after that you have to pay.

Tutorials for all design applications + more. This is a resource I visit when I need to learn a specific Photoshop/Illustrator technique.

HOW Magazine – Offers a lot of how-tos and insights into design.
Print Magazine – Has articles on new designers and current design trends.



Books:

Tres Logos – This book has a lot of logos! Mainly ones from Europe and lots of grudge styled ones.



Recommended Supplies:

Paper:
Report, process book covers: 100 lb.
Process book pages: 35 lb or 60 lb, depending on number of pages.
Business cards: at least 100 lb.
Letterhead: 25 or 28 lb.
Brochures: 35 lb to 100 lb, depending on need. Note: The thicker the paper, to more chance for the fold to create unsightly cracks in the paper. Test before final mock-up!

Printers and Papers that work well with them:
HP Photosmart Pro B8350: Hamermill Color Copy Cover: 28 lb, 36 lb, 65 lb, 80 lb, 100 lb. Found at Xpedx (link to http://www.xpedx.com).

Computers:
MacBook Pro, at least 1 GB RAM; consider a larger screen because you will be using it a lot.

Printers:
Epson Stylus Photo R1800. Recommended paper available at http://www.redriverpaper.com

Scanners:
Anything that scans at least 1200 dpi. Expect to pay about $200 for a decent one.

Light table (can usually get these at Michael’s using a 50% off coupon!)
Mat board cutter (Utrecht has good prices; plan to spend about $350 to get one with an extension arm that holds the board in place while you cut)
